Privacy and your data

Short answers to what people ask most. The full policy is the Privacy page, linked from the bottom of every page and from the menu.

Do I have to give my name or email to play?

Section titled “Do I have to give my name or email to play?”

No. You’re never asked for a name or an email to play. If the story asks what to call you, that name is kept only as your name in the story.

A few small things, kept in this browser and never uploaded on their own:

  • your place in the story, so Continue the Story works;
  • your Appearance choice;
  • your privacy choices, so the notice doesn’t keep asking;
  • a note that you signed up for email, so you aren’t asked again;
  • a number that keeps one chapter’s feedback answers together;
  • small hints you’ve dismissed.

Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes all of it.

No. Nothing is built from how you type, and no analytics tool receives your keystrokes, your answers, or personal details.

On your first visit, a Your privacy notice offers three choices:

  • Decline turns on no analytics tools. Everything works exactly the same.
  • Privacy Only turns on Umami, a privacy-focused visit counter that uses no cookies.
  • Accept All also turns on Google Analytics and Meta Pixel, which set their own cookies and help us measure our ads on Google, Facebook, and Instagram.

To change your mind, choose Your Privacy Choices at the bottom of any page or the menu. It has a switch for each tool, plus Reject all, Accept all, and Save my choices.

Two things run in the background either way, with nothing attached that identifies you:

  • How far people get. Which chapters and slides are reached, so we can see where people stop.
  • Time between steps. Only if you allowed analytics: how much time passed between steps such as your first chapter and finishing it, and which link first brought you here. Google and Meta don’t receive this. We keep the detail for 30 days, then only daily totals.

Only what you choose to send, and only when you send it:

  • Email signups send your address when you press the button.
  • The end-of-chapter feedback form sends your answers as you type, but only after you tick its consent box.
  • Share feedback sends what you wrote, your email if you added it, the page address, your browser, and the time, when you press Send feedback.
  • Sharing Keyfolk with a friend sends nothing about you; they get the site address.

Blank fields send nothing.

Who you are (from the service you signed in with), your place and totals, your learning-style settings, your Email updates choice, and the survey answers linked to you. Nothing about your typing itself (your account).

Email updates decides whether we may email you about new chapters and typing tips. Turn it off on the account page at any time; that’s the choice we follow.

Deleting your account removes your profile and your answers. A past payment stays on record as an amount with no name attached.

Write to support@keyfolk.app with any question about your data, or to ask for a copy, a correction, or deletion.
