Get unstuck

Something not doing what you expect? Find what you’re seeing below. Most of these take one step to sort out.

A character is speaking. Press their key: A for Alice, Z for Zorro, Q for Quasimodo, and the same for every friend after them. The speaker’s name is on the line. Space only moves the narrator on.

The slide is waiting for a key, a choice, or a mini-game. The arrows only go forward where Space would.

  • Check who’s speaking, or which friend the mini-game names on screen. Only their key moves things on.
  • Let go of Ctrl, Alt, or Cmd. A letter pressed with one of those held down is ignored, so your browser’s shortcuts still work.
  • Keyfolk expects a US English keyboard layout. On another layout, a key may not match the letter printed on it.

Open the menu at the top right and choose Help for this slide. It lists everything you can press right now. If you just wait for a minute and a half, a hint appears on its own.

If you see Pack load error or Pack not found, reload the page. If it keeps happening, let us know.

Your place is saved in the browser you played in. A different browser, a private window, or clearing this site’s data starts fresh. To get back:

  • open Keyfolk in the browser you played in before;
  • open a slide address you bookmarked, if you have one;
  • next time, sign in, and your place follows you to any computer (your account).

New chapters arrive one at a time, and Coming soon marks the next one being written. A Locked chapter opens when you finish the one before it (chapters and progress).

That’s how the chapters after the first one open. Your progress comes with you, and the first chapter stays open without an account.

Keyfolk is played on a computer with a physical keyboard for now, so on a phone or tablet a chapter link, even one a friend sent you, opens the home page, which shows Use a desktop keyboard to play. The menu there has no chapter list. Everything else works on your phone: the home page, the FAQ, this help, and your account. Send yourself the link and pick it up at a computer.

Enter fullscreen appears in the menu only when your browser can show Keyfolk fullscreen. Everything plays the same without it.

Now and then, when Keyfolk’s privacy options change, the Your privacy notice asks again. Choose whatever you like; you can change it later from Your Privacy Choices at the bottom of any page (privacy and your data).

We’d like to hear about it. Getting in touch has every way to reach us.
